Suzuki Motorcycles may recall 2 workers

Three days after three union leaders of Gurgaon-based Suzuki Motorcycles India were suspended following a brawl with the company vice-president, negotiations between the two parties, being mediated by the labour department, have not reaped any result. On Tuesday, however, when the next round of talks is scheduled, a solution may be arrived at. Sources have hinted that the final compromise will be that two of the three suspended leaders will be reinstated as of now while the third, union vice-president Avnesh Kumar who allegedly manhandled the VP, will be left out.

Gurgaon labour officer Ramesh Ahuja, who is mediating the talks between the management and the workers, did not rule out the possibility of such a solution “for the time being,” and said, “I will try to accommodate the concerns of both the parties.”

A manager with Suzuki motorcycles, who is also part of the talks, however, refused to comment over the issue.

While the company management claims its top official was manhandled by the workers, the employees’ union president Anil Kumar alleged that it was the VP who started the argument by abusing the union general secretary.

Anil Kumar claimed he has been trying to garner support of his counterparts in Maruti Suzuki India and Suzuki Powertrain for their support.

Ahuja said, “A few policemen are still stationed at the company premises as part of the precautionary action.”

Tension had gripped the Suzuki Motorcycles India plant near the Kherki Dhaula toll plaza on Friday following the suspension of three workers.

Production at the firm, however, has not been hit.
