Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences sets up unit in Bahrain

CHENNAI: The Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) group, has expanded overseas operations, with the KIMS Royal Bahrain Hospital, which will be opened this week.

Company officials said KIMS-RBH was Bahrain’s first custom-built hospital in the private sector in Bahrain, and that it had Bahrain’s first operational sleep lab, advanced laser technology for cosmetic surgery, and foetal medicine treatment facilities, among others.

The 6-million dinar project is promoted by Bahraini and Indian businessmen and has been conferred a special Indo-Bahraini project status by the Economic Development Board (EDB), company officials said, adding that the KIMS group’s investment underlined increased economic co-operation between Bahrain and India.

The Royal Bahrain Hospital is KIMS group’s second venture in Bahrain after the KIMS Bahrain Medical Center (KBMC) and the sixth project of the group in the Gulf Co-operation Council region. The group’s flagship hospital is the 650-bed hospital in Kerala.

The group’s regional operations are based out of Bahrain, and it also has a presence in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE. The group is looking at expanding with more units in the region, officials said.
