Kerala will protect police officers: Minister

Intelligence reports on threats faced by SIT members

The government will protect police officers involved in the investigation into the T.P. Chandrasekharan and Shukoor murder cases, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said. Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said the officers would get all protection if they faced any threats.

He was responding to a question regarding intelligence reports on threats faced by investigation officers.

The special investigation team had been given all freedom to complete the inquiry into the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case, the Minister said in reply to a question on the surrender of P.K. Kunhanandan, Panur area committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Reiterating that the SIT was the best team, he said the demand for reinvestigation of all past political murders was testimony to the efficiency of the team. Those who alleged that cases had been foisted on CPI(M) workers should wait till the case came up for trial in the court, he said.

There should be an end to politics of violence in the State, he said. The government was committed to nabbing the accused in all murder cases including that of Aneesh Rajan, Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

The government was planning to introduce reforms in jails. As a working arrangement, those serving jail terms in multiple murder cases would be shifted to jails in different zones. The government would

examine all legal aspects before taking a decision on reinvestigation the K.T. Jayakrishnan murder case, he said.
