Monsoon delay in Kerala to affect rainfall in Indore

INDORE: With monsoon expecting to hitKerala almost five days behind schedule in the next 24 hours, Indore, too would receive delayed monsoons. Monsoon normally reachesIndore on June 12 or 13.

“This year the monsoon would be delayed by a week,” said D P Dubey, director, meteorological department, Bhopal. However, he said Indore would receive some pre-monsoon rains in the next two to three days.

The latest monsoon forecast is contrary to the claims made by the weatherman a few days ago in Indore, where he had said that the arrival of monsoon would be on time and normal in Madhya Pradesh this year. “By Tuesday, monsoon is expected to reach Kerala coast against the normal date of June 1,” said Dubey. He said that this delay would naturally affect rainfall in Indore too.

Dubey said,Madhya Pradesh too would receive normal rainfall like other parts of the country. However, uniformity in the rainfall pattern cannot be expected. “Some districts would receive normal rainfall while others would receive scanty rains this time,” he said. It was difficult to identify such districts at present, he said.

About no rainfall during the Nautapa (the nine-day extreme hot weather condition during summer) this time, he dismissed the perception that it is a signal for poor rainfall this season if it rained during this period. “The perception is not scientifically proven,” he said.
