Rajasthan Royals shoot down Pune Warriors

Shane Watson’s solid 90 off 51 balls helped Rajasthan Royals clinch a comfortable seven-wicket win over Pune Warriors at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium here on Tuesday. Chasing 126, Rajasthan won with 22 deliveries to spare to hand Pune their sixth consecutive defeat. With this loss, Pune Warriors are out of the playoff race, while Rajasthan have moved to fourth position.

Watson hit 10 fours and four sixes to keep the required run-rate under control. He shared a 45-run stand with skipper Rahul Dravid (14) and later combined with Ashok Menaria (18) to help his team win comfortably.

Earlier, Sourav Ganguly won the toss and elected to bat. The decision made no difference as Warriors never found momentum. Making his IPL debut, Anustup Majumdar scored a rapid 30 off 20 balls, but the rest couldn’t even touch the 20-run mark.

Ganguly returned to the opening position with Michael Clarke. The duo, however, couldn’t accelerate. “I think our bowlers did a commendable job to restrict them. Shaun Tait, I feel, came good and took important wickets. Watson’s batting ensured a clinical finish for us,” Dravid said.
