Sensex opens higher; FMCG, realty, metals up

MUMBAI: The Sensex opened in the positive terrain after a sharp correction from the previous session as the rupee strengthened against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee moved higher to 54.36, up 13 paise, against its previous close.

At 09:18 a.m., the Sensex was at 16,169, up 138.91 points, or 0.87 percent. It has touched a high of 16,181.65 and a low of 16,104.64 in trade today.

The Nifty was at 4,904.05, up 45.80 points, or 0.94 percent. It has touched a high of 4,909 and a low of 4,878.60 in trade today.

The BSE Midcap Index was up 0.56 percent and the BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.36 percent higher.

Among sectoral indices, the BSE FMCG Index was up 1.41 percent, the BSE Realty Index moved 1.12 percent higher, the BSE Capital Goods Index gained 1.11 percent, and the BSE Metal Index advanced 1.07 percent.
